NEW YORK -- Once a dominant Matt Harvey departed, the Washington Nationals took turns teeing off. Josh Bailey Jersey . Ryan Zimmerman lined a tying, three-run double in the eighth inning and Ian Desmond sliced a go-ahead double in the ninth, rallying the Nationals over the New York Mets 6-4 Friday night. "That mightve been our biggest win of the year," Nationals manager Davey Johnson said. Harvey struck out 11 and left with a 4-1 lead after seven innings. It was the latest gem for a pitcher who could start the All-Star game on the same Citi Field mound next month. But he was pulled after 109 pitches, and then Washington broke loose. A bunch of hitters contributed to the comeback, which pushed the Nationals back over .500. "Everybodys been down on what theyre capable of doing," Johnson said. "This is a good jump-start." Zimmermans bases-loaded double came with two outs against Brandon Lyon, the third of four Mets relievers in the inning. Naturally, Zimmerman was glad to see Harvey out of the game. "I think youd rather face anyone now except him," he said. "Just because he leaves, it doesnt make the other guy easier to hit." Sure looked that way, though. "Its easy to sit here right now when weve lost the game to look back at the seventh or eighth inning and say you shouldve left him in or shouldve made this move or that move. Its a very easy thing to say," Mets manager Terry Collins said. Collins put down any suggestion that Harvey shouldve kept pitching. "Yeah, I couldve left him in. No doubt about it. I couldve let him throw 150. Decided to take him out. I thought he had enough," he said. Roger Bernadina got things going in the eighth with a leadoff single against David Aardsma. Josh Edgin, Lyon and Scott Rice later pitched in the inning, which included a key two-out double by Denard Span and a walk to Anthony Rendon. "Its a nine-inning game. We started feeling it," Bernadina said. Jayson Werth, who had struck out in all three at-bats against Harvey, hustled for a leadoff double in the ninth against closer Bobby Parnell (5-4). Desmond doubled down the right-field line and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Kurt Suzuki. Tyler Clippard (6-1) won in the relief and Drew Storen got his second save. The Mets lost after arriving back in New York at 4:30 a.m. after a one-day trip to Denver for a makeup game caused by an April snowout. Harvey, however, had flown back home from Chicago on Wednesday night to rest up, and he was plenty ready. The bullpen, meanwhile, was ragged after a 7-4 road trip to four cities. "Its baseball. Those guys go out and pitch every single day and pitch their butt off," Harvey said. "Today just happened to be one of those days." Harvey retired the first 14 batters before Desmond homered with two outs in the fifth. The right-hander permitted just three hits, raised his NL-leading strikeout total to 132, dropped his league-best ERA to 2.00 and didnt issue a walk. Josh Satin doubled twice, singled and drove in two runs for the Mets. A crowd of 28,363 turned out to see the team with worst home record in the majors. But theres a different buzz when Harvey pitches, and fans quickly began clapping in hopes of a strikeout when leadoff man Span fell into an 0-2 hole. Harvey fanned him, too. Harveys fastball hit 99 mph on a wet evening. Desmonds 14th homer came an inning after his error gave the Mets a lead. David Wright lined a double off Zimmermans glove at third base to open the fourth and Marlon Byrd followed with a grounder that Desmond bobbled and threw away, ending the shortstops 59-game errorless streak and allowing Wright to score. Desmond lofted a long fly over the left-field wall with two outs in the fifth, tying it at 1. The Mets scored twice in the fifth when Byrd hit an RBI double and Satin singled home a run off Ross Detwiler. Satins RBI double in the seventh made it 4-1. NOTES: Mets RHP Zack Wheeler will make his home debut Sunday, with lots of family in attendance. Collins said the rookie and pitching coach Dan Warthen had worked on a few things to make Wheeler more comfortable on the mound. Wheeler certainly sounded unfazed as he settled in at Citi Field. "Big league clubhouse, big league field," he said. ... The Nationals will promote RHP Taylor Jordan from Double-A Harrisburg to make his big league debut Saturday. He is 9-1 with a 1.00 ERA in Double-A and Class-A this season, and has been picked for the All-Star Futures Game at Citi Field next month. Johnson said he thought Jordan would get at least two-three starts in the majors. INF Chris Marrero will be sent down. ... OF Bryce Harper (left knee bursitis) is on track to rejoin the Nationals when they host Milwaukee on Monday. ... Detwiler is winless in four starts since going on the disabled list because of a back strain. ... Harvey has five games this year with double-digit strikeouts. ... Zimmerman is 3 for 3 with two doubles, two walks and a hit by pitch in his career against Lyon. Mike Bossy Jersey . - The Seattle Seahawks have signed nine players to 2014 future contracts, including quarterback B. Thomas Hickey Jersey . - Considering where Jeff Gordon was after Richmond, left out of the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship in part due to some late-race shenanigans, he couldnt have been happier on Sunday. http://www.islandersauthority.com/authentic-john-tavares-islanders-jersey/ . With the Pirates in the thick of the race in the NL Central, the timing couldnt be better. Liriano struck out a season-high 11 in seven innings to win consecutive starts for the first time this season and Pittsburgh beat the San Francisco Giants 3-1 on Tuesday night.ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves did everything they could over the last year to find a team willing to trade for struggling second baseman Dan Uggla. There were no takers. Ugglas frustrating, four-year tenure with the Braves ended Friday when the team requested unconditional release waivers on a former starter still guaranteed over $18 million for the remainder of this year and next. "Weve been very active making calls for the last month," general manager Frank Wren said. "We got to a point where we realized that this was probably our only avenue." Uggla received the news during an early afternoon meeting at Turner Field with Wren and manager Fredi Gonzalez. "He was professional, just like he always has been and always will be," Gonzalez said. "Now he goes out and he can explore other opportunities. Somebody will give him a chance, and we wish him the best of luck." In his fourth season with the Braves, the 34-year-old Uggla was batting .162 with two home runs and 10 RBI in 48 games and 130 at-bats. He had a 33-game hitting streak in 2011, the franchises second-longest, but also struck out 495 times in 451 games over the last three years. Uggla was benched permanently on May 28 when the Braves purchased the contract of second baseman Tommy La Stella from Triple-A Gwinnett. The teams patience with Uggla appeared to wear thin last Sunday when he was suspended one game for reporting just 30 minutes before the start of a game at the Chicago Cubs. Uggla, a three-time NL All-Star, hit .179 with 22 homers and 55 RBIs last year and underwent corrective eye surgery last summer. He struggled so much that he was left off the post-season roster after losing his job to Elliot Johnson, a journeyman claimed off waivers in late August. The Braves reinserted Uggla as the starter at the beginning of spring training this year, but he hit .212 in April and .080 in 25 at-bats during May. "It waasnt because he didnt prepare or didnt work hard," Wren said. Clark Gillies Jersey. "He did all those things, so I cant answer what happened from a performance standpoint." The Braves recalled utility man Tyler Pastornicky from Gwinnett to take Ugglas spot on the 25-man roster before Fridays game against Philadelphia. Atlanta acquired Uggla on Nov. 16, 2010, when Wren traded infielder Omar Infante and reliever Mike Dunn to the Marlins. Wren soon signed Uggla to a five-year contract worth approximately $62 million. "When we made the deal, right-handed power was of the most difficult things to acquire," Wren said. "It was the perfect fit at that time. Even the first year, Dan hit 36 home runs, and we felt like this was the perfect match. It didnt continue to fit as well." After meeting with Wren and Gonzalez, Uggla spoke with several teammates before leaving the clubhouse seemingly for the last time. "Its obviously a tough day for me," first baseman Freddie Freeman said. "He was beloved by everybody in this clubhouse. He came in here every day and worked hard. He already told us he wants us to go on. Its definitely going to take a while for me (to get over)." Added right fielder Jason Heyward: "He always hustled, did not complain one time, wanted to be in the lineup. Theres not enough good things we can say about him." With 67 games remaining, the Braves are tied for first place in the NL East with Washington. Wren likes the makeup of his roster now, but will continue to consider ways to improve before the trade deadline later this month. "We have some really good pieces and we have some good, young players (in the minors) that we think can help us in the second half," Wren said. "Well look for ways to improve our club internally, maybe externally, but we do think that the foundation of a real good ballclub is here."
