DENVER -- A slumping Jose Abreu received a hitting tip from the person who knows him best -- his mom. Cheap Adidas New York Islanders Jerseys . In an early morning call, she told him to simply relax at the plate. He listened and his powerful swing returned. Abreu and Avisail Garcia each hit two of Chicagos six homers, powering the White Sox to a 15-3 win over the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night. "My mom told me, Just take it easy," Abreu said through a translator. "That gave me a lot of strength." Strength is something he certainly has an abundance of, which is why the White Sox signed the Cuban slugger to a $68 million, six-year contract in October. In 29 major league at-bats, though, Abreu had no homers to show for it. That changed in the seventh, with the game still close at 4-2. Abreu fouled off pitch after pitch after pitch until sending the 12th one high into the air. The ball crept just over the glove of a leaping Brandon Barnes in left for a three-run homer. The weight off Abreus shoulders, he delivered a two-run drive the next inning. "Thats everything as advertised for him," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "Doesnt necessarily surprise us. I know hes happy, to kind of get it out of the way." Abreu even got his first home run ball, too, in a trade for an autographed baseball. "Like I always say, we should never press for things," Abreu said. "I always give myself some time. You have time to do things. "It was a great day today." Certainly was. Jose Quintana pitched seven sharp innings, and Tyler Flowers and Alexei Ramirez also went deep for the first time this season. The White Sox had six total home runs before the fireworks in this one at hitter-friendly Coors Field. Garcia and Marcus Semien each had four of Chicagos 19 hits. Quintana (1-0) bottled up Colorado most of the night, allowing five hits and two runs. The left-hander appeared ready to pitch the eighth, but after the White Sox batted around, scoring six times, Quintana was removed for a reliever. "I wanted back for more and more," Quintana said. "I understand -- long inning." Quintana is not quite used to this much run support. Hes had 28 no-decisions since 2012, the most in the majors. "Very happy," he said of all the runs Chicago scored. "Very, very happy." Franklin Morales (0-1) gave up six runs and two homers in 6 1-3 innings. Morales was essentially pitching to keep his spot in the rotation, especially with Jordan Lyles (2-0) off to a strong start and Tyler Chatwood (hamstring) soon returning from the disabled list. Once Morales was pulled, Chicago went to work against Colorados relievers, with Chad Bettis giving up a homer in the seventh and Wilton Lopez serving up three more in the eighth, including back-to-back shots by Garcia and Ramirez. Lopezs line wasnt pretty: six runs, eight hits and three homers while getting just two outs. He was booed as he walked off the mound by the smattering of fans that remained. Rockies manager Walt Weiss left Lopez out there in order to conserve his bullpen. "I dont like to leave a guy out there as long as I did, or take him out in the middle of the inning and have him walk off the field," Weiss said. "Hes always a guy thats up for the challenge and be in there in good times or tough times." Michael Cuddyer had a double and a solo homer off Quintana. Troy Tulowitzki added an RBI double. The Rockies juggled their lineup to give several starters the day off, including Carlos Gonzalez and streaking Charlie Blackmon. Tulowitzki was in the field a day after being taken out with a tight right quadriceps. Tulowitzki looked a little tentative running out a grounder in the first inning and again in the fourth. He easily trotted to second on his RBI double in the sixth, which made it 4-2. Abreu soon put the game away with his first homer of the season. "That at-bat was very, very important to me," Abreu said. "It kind of gave me a lot of confidence." NOTES: White Sox RHP Erik Johnson (0-1) pitches Wednesday against RHP Juan Nicasio (1-0) in the finale of the three-game series. ... Cuddyer has a hit in all nine games this season. The longest hitting streak to start a season in Rockies history is 16 games by Juan Pierre in 2000. ... After poring over hours and hours of player interviews, game tape and testing variables, it will soon be time to make the picks that make the difference between winners and losers in the NFL. And that means there will be significant pressure to get it right. For some teams, that pressure to succeed in the war room in the coming days is greater than ever. Here are six teams I feel absolutely have to come out of this Draft feeling good about their work in Chicago. Beginners guide Why is the Draft important? Cleveland Browns Ben Roethlisberger was selected 11th overall by the Steelers in 2004 after the Browns missed out In recent years, the Cleveland Browns have wheeled and dealed around draft boards and turned their back on the chance to draft genuine NFL superstars such as Ben Roethlisberger, Julio Jones and Odell Beckham Jr. in the process.Instead, the Browns have collected multiple draft picks and, for the most part, wasted them. So what have the Browns done this year under new management? The very same thing that hurt this club in the past - they have turned down the chance to select the second quarterback in this NFL Draft and must now make good on the multiple picks heading their way over the next three years. The approach makes sense given that the Browns are so devoid of talent and need to fill multiple areas of need. But this time around they have to hit on the multiple selections, especially if Carson Wentz turns out to be a star and the Browns are still searching for their first true franchise quarterback since re-entering the NFL in 1999.Indianapolis Colts Andrew Luck will celebrate if the Colts recruit some protection for him The recent drafting history of Colts general manager Ryan Grigson has not been all that great, in my mind. Indianapolis were crying out for an offensive lineman early last year and Grigson spoiled himself by grabbing another wide receiver in Phillip Dorsett when that was not an area of need. The Colts need to add some beef in the trenches - on offense and defense - and have to find a way to get franchise quarterback Andrew Luck some better protection. And this team cannot be pushed around as badly as they have been in recent years on defense.Grigson and head coach Chuck Pagano were at loggerheads last year yet both received four-year contract extensions. Its time for them to make their marriage of convenience work and that means drafting as many big men as possible in the coming days.New York Giants After signing Olivier Vernon, how much is left in the kitty? When the Giants stumbled to the end of a disappointing 2015 campaign, head coach Tom Coughlin paid with his job and was replaced by Ben McAdoo. Many felt the same fate would fall upon general manager Jerry Reese, but he somehow surviived and although his seat is hot, he has a chance to re-build a crumbling roster. Authentic Mike Bossy Jersey. Reese did a nice job in free agency but massively over-spent in signing Olivier Vernon, Jason Pierre-Paul, Damon Harrison and Janoris Jenkins. Thats not the most financially prudent way to stock your roster and the Big Blue could pay for that extravagance down the road. This Draft is crucial for Reese to find some younger and cheaper players. He should be feeling the heat as Giants owner John Mara said: Every Draft is important but this one more so than usual. Its time to pick it up.Gulp!San Francisco 49ers Will the 49ers try to replace Colin Kaepernick? This time last year the 49ers were suffering through a series of high-profile defections and retirements. And they have yet to even scratch the surface in terms of rebuilding their roster. The Niners had money to spend in free agency but seemingly wanted no part of the spending spree and that puts added pressure on general manager Trent Baalke heading into this NFL Draft.San Franciscos needs are multiple and we have to wonder if they currently have their starting quarterback on the roster in Blaine Gabbert and Colin Kaepernick. The 49ers have to stop the bleeding and begin their rebuild and it all begins with this Draft.Denver Broncos Malik Jacksons exit means Denver have large shoes to fill Defending Super Bowl champions dont normally hit too many panic buttons heading into an NFL Draft the following year but the off-season raid of the Denver Broncos has raised the stakes for the Mile High club.It was bad enough for Denver to lose Malik Jackson and Danny Trevathan on their Super Bowl defence, but what are they planning to do at quarterback? Brock Osweiler jumped ship and joined in Houston and I have to wonder what the Broncos are going to do about that all-important position in Chicago this week. The Broncos currently have Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian on their roster and, in my mind, neither is anything close to being the long-term answer. Whether it be via a conventional pick or a trade, the Broncos have to do something at quarterback this week.New Orleans Saints Saints may opt to replace Drew Brees or bring in protection for him The Saints are feeling the heat on the defensive side of the ball because they set numerous unwanted records in 2015. Can they upgrade that unit enough in the coming days and not waste yet another season for Drew Brees?Or will they draft the eventual replacement for the 37-year-old Brees? There has been some reported interest in Paxton Lynch out of Memphis but taking a passer in the first round might rock the boat just a tad too much on Thursday night. Its also important to remember that the Saints have some serious salary cap issues and would love to stock their roster with some younger and cheaper players. This is a vital draft for the Saints if they are go get back into playoff contention.
