Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamovs agent says his client will be cleared when the facts come out regarding his arrest on domestic violence charges on Wednesday night. Stitched White Sox Jerseys . "My client is completely innocent of these charges," Paul Theofanous told Adrian Dater of The Denver Post. Varlamov, according to Denver police, was arrested on second-degree kidnapping and third-degree assault charges stemming from an incident on Tuesday and turned himself in on Wednesday. He appeared before a judge on Thursday and was released on a $5,000 bond. He is also allowed to travel with the team. Meanwhile, a Russian government official is claiming that Varlamovs arrest is part of a scheme to prevent Russia from winning the gold medal in mens hockey at next years Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. "Im confident of Semyons innocence," Russian parliamentarian Igor Ananskikh told a Russian news agency R-Sport. "I think it is a sports and political move, as Varlamov is a candidate for the Russian national team. The main goal is to suspend him from training and games so that he loses practice and misses the Olympics." He was expected to go head-to-head with fellow countryman Sergei Bobrovsky of the Columbus Blue Jackets for the starting job in net for Russia. Varlamov is in his sixth NHL season and third with the Avalanche. He has gone 7-1 this season during the teams 10-1-0 start. The Avalanche play at Dallas on Friday night and Varlamov was scheduled to start in goal. Former San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds made his longshot request of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco. A three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit upheld Bonds conviction in September.DENVER -- Champ Bailey spent a decade with the Denver Broncos, making eight Pro Bowls and picking off 34 passes even with quarterbacks only reluctantly glancing his way. This number was hard to overlook: $10 million. In a cost-cutting move Thursday, the Broncos released Bailey, the teams defensive leader whos been a fan favourite since he was acquired in a trade with Washington in 2004. Theres simply no room for loyalty in the NFL, especially with free agency about to start and with holes needing to be filled, something that became apparent to the Broncos after a 43-8 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl last month. Broncos boss John Elway called the decision to release Bailey a "difficult" one given all that the perennial Pro Bowl cornerback has brought to the team over his 10 seasons in the Mile High City. "Without question, hes among the best cornerbacks to ever play the game and one of the finest players in the history of the Broncos," Elway said in a statement. "You couldnt ask for more in a player than what Champ brought to this team. His combination of elite talent, class, leadership and competitiveness made him one of the all-time greats." But age and injuries had begun to catch up with one of the best shutdown cornerbacks to play the game. Bailey, a 12-time Pro Bowler overall, is scheduled to make around $10 million next season, which is a lot of money for a cornerback who may be asked to switch to safety or possibly inside to the slot position. This was a hard season for the 35-year-old Bailey as he missed 11 games because of a nagging left foot sprain originally suffered in the preseason on Aug. 17 in Seattle. Only later did Bailey reveal he sustained a Lisfranc injury. He returned late in the season to help the Broncos advance to the Super Bowl, but wasnt back to his old form -- the form that had QBs scanning everywhere but his direction. In his prime, Bailey wasnt always very busy because opponents simply picked on his counterpart. And yet he still has 52 career interceptions, the most among active cornerbacks. "I consider it a privilege to have coached Champ these last three years," Broncos coach John Fox said. "Theres no doubt he played an integral role in establishing a culture of winning here. "Aside from hiis natural ability, Champ set a great example with his hard work and relentless commitment to mastering his craft. Custom Chicago White Sox Jerseys. " The 15-year veteran mentored many teammates, teaching them the tricks of the cornerback trade. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, an impending free agent, once said he used to study film of Bailey simply because, "If youre a cornerback, you have to be a fan of Champ Bailey. Anytime a guy does that for a period of time he did it, 14 or 15 years, youve got to watch him." Rodgers-Cromartie and Bailey were supposed to be a lockdown tandem in 2013. Until Bailey got hurt. So in stepped Chris Harris Jr., an undrafted player out of Kansas who soaked up all of Baileys suggestions as he waited his turn. Once he got on the field, Harris became almost a copy of Bailey -- or as much as anyone can be. Harris blew out a knee against San Diego in the divisional round, leading to Baileys return to his usual spot at left corner. On his Twitter account, Harris thanked Bailey for his help, saying he was blessed to be able to "lineup opposite Champ and learn from a Great." Harris wasnt alone in his praise, with linebacker Danny Trevathan posting on Twitter: "Champ. You taught me a lot!" Although quarterbacks didnt always pick on him, Bailey still found a way to get involved. He prided himself on his tackling and frequently crept up to the line of scrimmage to help out. In 215 regular-season games, Bailey has 983 tackles, three sacks, nine forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. His best statistical season was 2006, when he had a career-high 10 interceptions and finished as runner-up for The Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year. About the only thing that eluded Bailey in his time with Denver was that Super Bowl ring. But Elway said there is a "ring" in Baileys future because Elway said hes going to have a place in the teams Ring of Fame once his career is finished. Maybe down the road there will be a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, too, which would make him the first Denver defensive player to be enshrined. "On behalf of everyone with the Broncos, I wish Champ all the best and thank him for everything he did for this franchise," Elway said. "Champ will always be a Bronco." ' ' '

He wanted to see his starters forced to play big minutes late in a close game in order to get them ready for next weeks NBA season opener. It didnt quite work out that way. The Raptors took charge of the game late in the first quarter and quickly turned it into a laugher, pounding the Grizzlies 108-72 before a crowd of 14,421 at Air Canada Centre. Still, Casey was impressed with how his team rebounded the ball, especially at their own end of the court, against one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the game. "They did an excellent job and they responded," Casey said. "I thought our guys met the challenge defensively. This has to be our personality night in, night out. "As meaningless as these games are, you can still have a chance to work on some things." Toronto surrendered just seven offensive rebounds to the Grizzlies while grabbing 12 at the Memphis end of the court. Overall, the Raptors held a 54-36 edge in rebounds. Thirteen different Toronto players scored points, five of them in double figures, as the Raptors led by as many as 39 points on the way to improving to 6-1 in the pre-season, which ends in Milwaukee Friday. "Tonight was a great test for us," said Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan, who led the way with 21 points. "We wanted to come in and hold our ground and thats what we did." With the Raptors poised to open the season at home against the Boston Celtics next Wednesday, DeRozan said his confidence is "as high as its ever been, by far. "I just dont feel like annybody can guard me. Devonte Graham Jersey. I dont really worry about anything on the offensive end. I know I can score when I want to and I know I can create whenever I want to or get to the free-throw line." Rudy Gay added 15 points while Austin Daye had 14 points off the bench as the Raptors shot 46 per cent from the field, including an impressive 53 per cent from three-point range. The Grizzlies, meanwhile, were brutal at both ends of the court. They shot just 35 per cent from the field, including only 24 per cent from the beyond the arc. Ed Davis and Jon Leuer each had 11 points to lead the Grizzlies. "We are getting closer and closer to the season so the quicker we can get into game shape the better," said Gay, who came to the Raptors from Memphis in a trade last year. "We really want to get a jump start this season so I think its good we got a lot of minutes." The Raptors did come out of the evening with some health concerns. Starting guard Kyle Lowry left the game in the second half with an injured left ring finger and did not return. Starting centre Jonas Valanciunas took an elbow from Zach Randolph and required stitches to his chin while Tyler Hansbrough injured his right thumb and Julyan Stone got a knee to his thigh. "It wouldnt be pre-season if we didnt have some drama," Casey quipped. The biggest concern is clearly Lowry, who Casey said "popped out" his finger when reaching for a loose ball. But the coach noted the injury, which will be re-evaluated Thursday, is to his non-shooting hand. Despite the lopsided victory, it was far from a pretty effort for the Raptors, who committed 17 turnovers. The Grizzlies had 19 turnovers on the night. ' ' '

GREEN BAY, Wis. Matthew Dellavedova Cavaliers Jersey . - Randall Cobb keeps finding the end zone for the Green Bay Packers. Soon enough, it could lead to a big payday. The fourth-year receiver is in the last season of his rookie contract after being drafted in 2011. He loves Green Bay and shows no letup in proving he can be a playmaker catching passes from Aaron Rodgers.Cobb, who has nine touchdowns in eight games to lead NFL receivers, said he doesnt think about his contract status. The Packers dont seem too worried, either.I guess well have to wait and see, Cobb said Thursday when asked whether he was setting himself up nicely for a future deal.A few lockers away, fellow receiver Jordy Nelson let out a hearty laugh.Nelson signed a $39 million, four-year extension on the first day of training camp in July. He has been worth every penny so far, with 50 catches for 737 yards and six touchdowns as Rodgers top target in Green Bays up-tempo attack.Cobb has been nearly as productive with 40 catches and 578 yards. Always a threat in space, Cobb has also developed a knack for making plays in tight quarters in the red zone.Rodgers said its all about finding the right matchups.Jordy and Randall have had a lot of targets go their way. Theyve been open a lot, Rodgers said. Weve kind of manipulated some formations to try to get them in the ... first or second spot as far as the progression goes.Cobb was especially hard on himself after Green Bays 19-7 loss on Sept. 21 at Detroit, which dropped the Packers to 1-2. He was held without a score on three catches for 29 yards. He has been a regular in the end zone ever since, with six touchdowns in the last five games. He has 26 catches for 452 yards during that five-game stretch. He brings that blue-collar, workmanlike attitude when he goes out on the practice field and tries to make the most out of each and every opportunity, receivers coach Edgar Bennett said. The thing I really love about him also is the fact that good is not enough. He wants to be great, and he works at it.Especially against Sundays opponent, the Chicago Bears. In his last three games against Green Bays division rival, Cobb has 15 catches for 283 yards and four touchdowns.Cobb had seven grabs for 113 yards and two scores in a 38-17 win over the Bears in September. In the 2013 regular-season finale in Chicago, Cobb had two scoring receptions, including a memorable 48-yarder from Rodgers on fourth down with 38 seconds left to help Green Bay win 33-28 and take the NFC North title.I dont know if we play at a higher level, but we have been more efficient here as of late against the Bears, Cobb said. But otherwise, no extra motivation against them — or at least thats what Cobb is letting on.I mean, its another game for me, Cobb said. I just continue to try to play the best I can to help this team out any way I can.Keep up the production and the Packers figure to be rewarding Cobb handsomely.NOTES: Starting guards Josh Sitton (toe) and T.J. Lang (ankle) missed practice again, though coach Mike McCarthy said he would feel very comfortable playing both veterans without practice time. Lang said he had some ligament and muscle damage, which made the injury more than a typical sprained left ankle. Thats obviously something you have to think about, is weigh the options and not getting better for the rest of the season and be kind of that 60-70 per cent, whatever it is, or just waiting a couple of weeks and being 80-90 per cent, Lang said. Ellis hit an RBI single in the ninth inning, Hanley Ramirez hit a tape-measure, three-run homer in the first against Cliff Lee and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 on Saturday night.OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Baltimore Ravens have plenty of flaws, and theyre running out of time to fix them. Two weeks ago, the Ravens were in first place in the AFC North. Now, after an embarrassing 43-23 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night, theyre in the cellar.Baltimore (5-4) yielded four sacks, gained only 63 yards rushing and — worst of all — allowed Ben Roethlisberger to throw six touchdown passes. With cornerback Jimmy Smith out with a sprained left foot, the Ravens surrendered 340 yards passing to a team they held without a touchdown earlier in the season.Clearly, the secondary is a primary concern.I think guys have played OK at times, well other times and there have been a few bad plays out there, coach John Harbaugh said Monday.Against the Steelers, it was mostly awful. The Ravens have already passed the midpoint of the season, and they still havent perfected their communication on the back end of their defence. We had two plays which were coverage busts. We just were in the wrong spot, we werent on the same page, we misplayed the coverage, Harbaugh said. And there were three other times where we just got beat physically. So those are bad things.Safety Terrence Brooks was a healthy inactive for the Ravens, who are still looking for the right combination in pass coverage. You want to play in that secondary? Step up in practice and play well and step in the game and make plays and be in the right spot, Harbaugh said. Thats what were looking for guys to do.Baltimore led 7-0 before committing two straight turnovers that set up two Pittsburgh touchdowns. Later, a 14-10 deficit became 29-10 when the Steelers scored on touchdown passes of 47 and 54 yards.Too many big plays by them, too many turnovers by us, Harbaugh lamented. The Ravens were 5-2 before falling at Cincinnati and Pittsburgh. Now, theyre in danger of missing the playoffs for a second straight season. Dean Wade Jersey. .Everybody has tough weeks, Harbaugh said. Its going to be a fight to the end. We just got to make sure were in the fight. That starts with moving forward right now, this week, to the next game. The Ravens face Tennessee at home on Sunday. If they win that one, theyll head into their bye week with a 6-4 record. We just have to move forward and start winning football games again, quarterback Joe Flacco said. It starts this week.Baltimore must do a better job of protecting Flacco if it is going to make a run at the post-season. In addition to the four sacks, Flacco was rushed on several throws while operating behind an offensive front that had its hands full the entire night. It really wasnt a common theme. It was a number of things, Harbaugh said. We got beat 1-on-1 a couple of times, once or twice we didnt get to the hot receiver, once or twice we didnt make a throw or a catch or we were safe with the ball. Its collective. The theme is that weve got to handle pressure. Weve got make people pay for it, run and pass. Its something thats going to be important for us to do.The good news for the Ravens is that they have already played all but one of their games within the AFC North, where every team is currently over .500. Four of Baltimores final seven games are home, including matchups against Tennessee (2-6), Jacksonville (1-8) and the slumping San Diego Chargers. There is still hope, regardless of the teams current shortcomings. We have a lot of plusses, Harbaugh insisted. Its not like were sitting here without good players. Every team has weaknesses. Every team has things they have to scheme around and play around. Well figure out how to do that.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP_NFL ' ' '

PHOENIX -- Goran Dragic scored 40 points, his second career high in three games, and the Phoenix Suns pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat the New Orleans Pelicans 116-104 Friday night, snapping a three-game losing streak. Authentic Basketball Jerseys . Dragic was a game-time decision because of a sore right ankle that had kept him out of Wednesdays loss at Utah, but played all but the last 10 seconds of the second half in the first 40-point game for a Phoenix player since Amare Stoudemires 44 on March 19, 2010. Anthony Davis, also a game-time decision because of a sprained left shoulder, matched his career high with 32 points for the Pelicans, who lost their sixth in a row. Markieff Morris added 18 points and twin brother Marcus 15 for Phoenix. Eric Gordon scored 21 for New Orleans. Dragic, who had expressed some doubt after the morning shootaround that he would be able to play, had a career-best 36 in the Suns loss to Houston on Sunday. He hurt his ankle in the home loss to Minnesota on Tuesday. He had 15 points in the first quarter and 13 in the fourth, surpassing 30 points in a game for the eighth time this season. Phoenix took control with a 17-1 fourth-quarter run. Dragic banked in a 3-pointer from the top of the key, then sank an 18-footer to cap the outburst and put the Suns ahead 105-92 with 4:33 left. Phoenix looked to be in trouble late in the third quarter. The Pelicans used a 15-1 run to go up 77-67 on Austin Rivers two free throws with 2:59 left in the period. But Phoenix outscored the Pelicans 14-4 the rest of the quarter. Marcus Morris scored the first seven in the run, Dragic sank a 3, then made a driving layup to tie it at 81-81 entering the fourth quarter. New Orleans took a four-point lead early in the fourth and was up 91-88 on Brian Roberts driving layup with 9:47 remaining. Phoenix, though, scored the next six. Dragic scored on a drive, then Markieff Morris made consecutive layups and the Suns led 94-91 with 8:13 left. Neither team led by more than seven points in a first half bereft of defence, with the Suns up 56-54 at the break. New Orleans shot 58 per cent in the half (22 of 38), Phoenix 56 per cent (20 of 36). In the second quarter, nobody led by more than four. Al-Farouq Aminus two free throws put the Pelicans up 50-47 with 2:14 left in the half, then the Suns scored seven straight, P.J. Tuckers 3-pointer giving Phoenix a 54-50 lead 52.9 seconds before the break. Gordons layup at the buzzer was ruled no good and the call was upheld on review, preserving Phoenixs two-point edge. LOS ANGELES -- Gina Carano is scheduled to meet with UFC President Dana White on Wednesday night to discuss a return to mixed martial arts for a bout with bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. The long-rumoured matchup between the biggest stars in womens MMA history appears increasingly possible after White confirmed Caranos interest in fighting Rousey, arguably the UFCs biggest current star. White dismissed any suggestion the fight would be a mismatch, saying he would be eager to pit the unbeaten Rousey against Carano, who hasnt fought since August 2009 while pursuing an acting career. "(If Carano) is going to come back, (its) because she wants this," White said Wednesday at a downtown Los Angeles hotel. "And if she says yes and she wants to do a deal, its because she wants to fight Ronda." Rousey said she would welcome the chance to fight Carano, the MMA pioneer whose television fights first exposed Rousey, a former U.S. Olympic medallist in judo, to the young sport. "Shes the reason why I fight at all," Rousey said. "I owe everything to her. I would bend over backwards to fight her. What, are we going to make her run through a gauntlet to fight me? I would show up at her house to fight her. ... Its a fight that Ive always wanted and I never really entertained as being a real possibility until lately." Carano, who turns 32 next week, has been increasingly vocal about her interest in returning to MMA, confirming it on "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" earlier this week. "Its something that Ive always loved to do, and its been such a genuine expression for me," Carano said. "I wouldnt say that unless I was really, actually thinking about making a comeback." White said a potential Rousey-Carano bout would be for the 135-pound title, not at a catch weight. Replica Basketball Jerseys. Carano hasnt fought at 135 pounds since 2006 and repeatedly missed 140-pound limits later in her career, but White said Carano believes she could make the bantamweight limit. Carano made her pro MMA debut in 2006, and she gained widespread mainstream attention after two of her bouts for the EliteXC promotion aired on CBS in 2008. After seven straight victories, Carano lost her final fight to Cris "Cyborg" Justino in the defunct Strikeforce promotion before moving full-time into acting. Director Steven Soderbergh saw her CBS fights and hired her to star in "Haywire," a well-regarded 2011 spy thriller. She has since appeared in a series of action films, including the blockbuster "Fast & Furious 6" last year. Rousey defended her 135-pound belt in December and again in February before returning to her own nascent acting career, this time in the seventh installment of the "Fast & Furious" series. The fight would draw enormous attention to the UFC and womens MMA because of the fighters profiles outside the cage, likely becoming one of the biggest pay-per-view events in UFC history. Rousey believes Carano shouldnt have to fight another contender before this matchup, saying Caranos body of work justifies an immediate title shot. "I think it would be the best thing for womens MMA at the time," Rousey said. "It would be the highest-profile fight, and I dont think it would really make sense for her to come back and fight somebody else and take the risk of maybe losing and not being able to capitalize on a fight between me and her. I think it would make more sense to go straight to a title fight." ' ' '

PHOENIX - Adam Eatons blackout turned into a walkoff. Kansas City Royals Pro Shop . Despite being unsure of what pitch he hit or what to do as he rounded the bases, Eaton ended a wild game of momentum swings with the first walk-off homer hit into Chase Fields right field pool on Monday night, lifting the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 7-6 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. "Im not sure what happened — I just blacked out," Eaton said. "I thought I hit a heater and found out later it was a slider." Arizona has made an art of the comeback this season and pulled off a desert masterpiece to open the three-game interleague series against the Orioles. Baltimore led 4-2 after roughing up Diamondbacks starter Wade Miley. Arizona went up 5-4 in the seventh by stringing together three run-scoring singles, including one by Aaron Hill, who also homered for the third straight game. Chris Davis tied the game in the eighth with a solo homer, not all that surprising since he leads the majors with 43. The homer by Wil Nieves to lead off the eighth was a bit more unexpected. He hadnt hit one since last season and needed a friendly carom off the top of the wall in left to get it. Arizona closer Brad Ziegler (6-1) had converted his first seven save chances this season, but was uncharacteristically off, giving up a tying sacrifice fly to Nick Markakis after the Orioles loaded the bases against him. Eaton ended the night with its most surprising moment, putting an abrupt end to the momentum swings by sending the first pitch by Darren ODay (5-2) into the pool in right-centre to set off a wild celebration. It was Arizonas second game-ending homer of the homestand — Paul Goldschmidt did it to the Mets on Friday — 23rd win in its last at-bat and 33rd comeback victory of the season. "We could have got discouraged, we let some opportunities go, but battled back against a pretty good team," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. Baltimore got a solid start out of Scott Feldman, hit a pair of homers, twice battled back from late deficits and still wound up losing. Matt Wieters homered and Brian Roberts had two RBIs for the Orioles, who stumbled after winning four of their first five games to start an eight-game road trip. "Momentum is the next pitch you throw," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. Feldman put the Orioles in good position, only running into trouble in the second inning. Hill led off with his eighth homer and Gerardo Parra scored from second on a wild pitch later in the inning, thanks to an obstruction call against Orioles third baseman Manny Machado. Parra was originally called out at home, but third base umpire Alfonso Marquez ruled Machado, who was standing on the bag, interfered with his progress toward the plate. Feldman was good after that, allowing two runs — one earned — and four hits with eight strikeouts in 5 1-3 innings. He gave up nine earned runs in 9 2-3 innings his previous two starts. "We had that one long inning, the second inning, that weird inning there," Feldman said. "Other than that, the offence picked us up." Though Feldman left with the lead, the bullpen couldnt hold it. Brian Matusz opened the seventh inning by hitting Didi Gregorius, and Eaton, Hill and Martin Prado followed with run-scoring singles off Tommy Hunter to put the Diamondbacks up 5-4. Joe Thatcher, Arizonas left-handed specialist, couldnt hold the lead, either, giving up a no-doubt solo homer to left by Davis that tied the game at 5-all. Nieves put the Diamondbacks back up quickly, hitting his first homer since Aug. 9, 2012, in his first game with the Diamondbacks. Then it was Zieglers turn to blow a lead. Aided by first baseman Goldschmidts inability to get the ball out of his glove on Nate McLouths infield single, the Orioles loaded the bases with one out and Markakis followed with a sacrifice fly to tie the game. The drama ended quickly in the bottom half, when Eaton hit his first homer of the season. He may not have known what happened, but his teammates sure did, mobbing him as he crossed the plate. "He got something up, put a good swing on it and sent it to the pool," said Miley, who watched Eatons homer from the clubhouse after allowing four runs and seven hits in seven innings. "It was a no-doubter." Notes: Showalter received a nice ovation after being recognized in the first inning in his first game at Chase Field since 2000. He was the original manager of the Diamondbacks when they joined the league in 1998. ... The Diamondbacks have had an extra-base hit in 53 straight home games. ... GREENSBORO, N.C. -- North Carolina State coach Mark Gottfried said his team had a "golden" opportunity to help its NCAA tournament chances. The Wolfpack didnt squander it, instead sending Jim Boeheim and No. 11 Syracuse to a quick exit from their first Atlantic Coast Conference tournament. T.J. Warren scored 28 points while Ralston Turner banked in the go-ahead 3-pointer with 2:28 left to help N.C. State upset the Orange 66-63 in Fridays quarterfinals, continuing both the Wolfpacks push for the NCAAs and the Oranges downward late-season trend. The seventh-seeded Wolfpack (21-12) blew a 10-point second-half lead but came through with two clutch baskets late to hold off the Orange (27-5) in front of a home-state crowd in Greensboro. It was a huge win for N.C. State, which came into the year picked to finish 10th in the league with a young team and instead finished 9-9. That included one-point losses on last-second baskets to Wake Forest and rival North Carolina, as well as one to Syracuse at the Carrier Dome last month. "I hope that were a legitimate contender," Gottfried said. "Were not the same team that we were in November and December. When you lose 80 per cent of your scoring from a year ago, its going to take a while to figure yourselves out." Now N.C. State has won four straight heading into Saturdays semifinals against No. 7 Duke, marking the third time in three seasons that N.C. State has reached Saturday at the ACC tournament under Gottfried. This win could help Gottfried also make it 3 for 3 with the NCAAs, too. "I think so," Turner said when asked about whether N.C. State should be in, "but thats not up to me." Warren followed Turners tiebreaking 3 with a jumper to make it 64-61, then hit two free throws with 24.6 seconds left to keep the Wolfpack up three. Syracuse had one wild final possession, missing six shots -- including four hurried 3-pointers from Tyler Ennis, Trevor Cooney and C.J. Fair -- to ensure its first ACC tournament would be a one-and-done stop. "I thought the 3s we were taking, we had a couple of good chances," Ennis said, "but they just didnt fall." Ennis scored 15 off his 21 points after halftime for Syracuse, which was unbeaten and ranked No. Cheap Royals Jerseys. 1 in the country a month ago but has faded down the stretch. The tournaments No. 2 seed had lost four of six coming into Greensboro, though Boeheim has dismissed the suggestion that his team was in a slump. That talk will probably grow louder with another loss -- Syracuse is 2-5 after a 25-0 start -- heading into the NCAA tournament. Syracuse shot 33 per cent Friday, with leading scorer Fair scoring nine points on 3-for-16 shooting. "Im not concerned about our team," Boeheim said. "I think weve played well all year. I think weve struggled shooting, and I think thats pretty well-documented. But in spite of that, we won 27 games, so Im pretty pleased with what these guys have done, and I believe well be a very good tournament team." Warren, the ACCs leading scorer and player of the year, finished 9 for 21 from the field but hit 10 of 12 free throws and grabbed eight rebounds. "I just wanted to find open spots on the floor," Warren said. "Their zone is so spread out that its easy to find little gaps and little separation. Theyre very athletic so youve really got to think quick to get your shots up." Fifth-year senior Jordan Vandenberg added 10 points for N.C. State, which led 28-25 at halftime then shot 52 per cent after halftime. The Wolfpacks win against reigning champion Miami in Thursdays second round set up the rematch with Syracuse, who was still atop the polls when it edged N.C. State 56-55 on Feb. 15. Syracuse won that after the Wolfpack committed a late turnover that led to Fairs winning layup with 6.7 seconds left. There was also a much-discussed call in which officials waved off a basket from Warren while being fouled with 13.6 seconds left because the foul came before the shot with N.C. State up one. This one came down the stretch just like before, but the Wolfpack didnt let this one get away. "Sometimes those kind of things balance out in life," Gottfried said. "We had the tough one earlier in the year where we didnt finish the game. Today, maybe fate was on our side on that last possession." ' ' '

Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork. Custom College Jerseys .com) - The Oakland Athletics activated outfielder Josh Reddick from the 15-day disabled list prior to Tuesdays game against the New York Mets. In order to reinstate Reddick, the As placed first baseman Kyle Blanks on the 15-day DL with a strained left calf. Reddick was 7-for-16 in a four-game rehab stint with Triple-A Sacramento. A hyperextended right knee put him on the shelf at the beginning of June. He was batting only .214 with four home runs and 22 RBI over 50 games prior to the injury. Blanks, acquired from San Diego in May, has hit .333 with two homers and seven RBI in 21 games with the As. Cheap College Jerseys . TSN primes Vancouver fans for the start of the 2014 season with MLS on TSN: Season Preview Special airing tonight at 7:30pm et/4:30pm pt on TSN2 (encore Friday at 3:30pm et/12:30pm pt on TSN2). Its arguably the first marquee event of every Winter Olympics, and the mens downhill in recent Olympics has provided surprising storylines. “The one thing about the Olympics especially in the speed disciplines, it so very rarely goes to the favourite, the favourite has so much pressure, and the variables are greater in downhill,” says CBC alpine analyst Kerrin Lee-Gartner, a 1992 downhill winner. “ Its not to say its a flukey thing, its just that everything has to align right, its harder for the favourite to make it align right in downhill.” In the last 20 years there have been four Olympic downhill winners who had fewer than three World Cup victories before making history: Tommy Moe of the U.S., Frenchmen Jean-Luc Cretier and Antoine Deneriaz, and 2010 winner Didier Defago of Switzerland. The Canadian Cowboys - Erik Guay, Manuel Osborne-Paradis and Jan Hudec - wouldnt qualify as surprise winners from an individual standpoint, but breaking a 20-year Olympic medal drought for the country in alpine skiing certainly would make fans take notice. No Canadian man has ever won a gold or silver medal in alpine. Steve Podborski (1980) and Ed Podivinsky (1994) each won bronze in the downhill. Guay is the likeliest contender to break through. Hes achieved two of his three career goals after winning a Crystal Globe season title in the super-G in 2010 and winning a world championship in downhill a year later. The Mont-Tremblant, Que., native is only missing an Olympic medal, preferably gold, after three separate top five finishes at the Winter Games. Guay has battled back this season from a knee injury to break Podborskis World Cup podium record for Canadian men. He finished seventh in the opening training session on Thursday. Hudec, he of the seven knee surgeries and more recent back injury, has also reached the podium this season. The Calgary native took silver in the super-G in Val Gardenaa, Italy in December. Fake College Basketball Jerseys. Osborne-Paradis is waiting to take that next step. Since coming back in late 2012 from a knee injury, the North Vancouver native has had top 10 finishes, but has been unable to reach the podium. Ben Thomsen of Invermere, B.C., finished second on a slightly different Sochi course two years ago, but hes struggled mightily this season. There are two strong international contenders to buck the recent trend of surprise Olympic downhill champs. Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway, who won a medal of every colour in Vancouver, has run his total of World Cup downhill wins to eight this season with a pair of victories. Bode Miller of the United States has wowed ski fans again this season, coming back at the age of 36 after more than a year off to reach the World Cup podium once each in downhill, super-G and giant slalom. Millers yet to win since his comeback, but coming up golden for a sixth career Olympic medal would be just his style. The following men would also not be surprise winners: Dominik Paris and Christof Innerhofer of Italy, Adrian Theaux of France and Patrick Kueng of Switzerland. Even 36-year-old Didier Defago put his name into consideration again after his first victory in over two years last month, a super-G at Kitzbuehel. The lengthy course has received mostly positive feedback from the skiers, with many remarking on the "big air" jumps. 2010 Olympic downhill: Didier Defago, Switzerland (G), Aksel Lund Svindal, Norway (S), Bode Miller, USA (B) Olympic alpine skiing schedule: Sunday, Feb. 9: Mens downhill Monday, Feb. 10: Womens super-combined Wednesday, Feb. 12: Womens downhill Friday, Feb. 14: Mens super-combined Saturday, Feb. 15: Womens super-G Sunday, Feb. 16: Mens super-G Tuesday, Feb. 18: Womens giant slalom Wednesday, Feb. 19: Mens giant slalom Friday, Feb. 21: Womens slalom Saturday, Feb. 22: Mens slalom ' ' '

RENTON, Wash. Fake China Shoes . - After the surgery and the rehabilitation, the setbacks and finally the triumph in the Super Bowl, a simple voluntary off-season workout has more meaning for Percy Harvin. His appreciation is a byproduct of spending most of his first season with the Seattle Seahawks as a spectator. "Im just happy to be out here, Im happy to be healthy right now," Harvin said last month during the Seahawks organized team activities. "Were all tuned into what we have to get done this next coming year so were all just out here working. It feels tremendously good to get back on the field and be as one." Having Harvin fully healthy and ready to go from the start will be key for the Seahawks when they get to the start of training camp in late July. There are still three more days of workouts next week during minicamp to get through, but so far this off-season has been nothing but a success for Harvin in finally getting fully integrated into Seattles offence. Last season, Harvin pushed through the off-season workouts. It was a must in order to learn his new team, his new offence, his new quarterback after the trade that brought him to Seattle from Minnesota. But Harvin was never right, the pain in his hip never leaving. "I knew I had pain, I didnt know exactly what it was so I just kind of pushed through the whole last year in the off-season," Harvin said. The problem and what followed is now well known. Harvin had the labrum in his hip repaired and he played in only one regular-season game in 2013. He returned for the NFC divisional playoff game against New Orleans, only to get knocked out in the second quarter with a concussion. He missed the NFC championship game. Of course, Harvin made his presence known on the biggest stage, with two big offensive plays in the first half of the Super Bowl and his 87-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to start the second half. The Super Bowl proved to be Harvins springboard. Within a couple of weeks of the season ending, Harvin was texting teammates to make sure they were getting started on their off-season workouts. He took part with many of Seattles wide receivers, tight ends and running backs during a pseudo-camp in Southern California organized by quarterback Russell Wilson. And Harvins been getting plenty of reps during the OTAs — all without pain. "This is probably the best Ive ever felt since before college," Harvin said. Having Harvin as a full participant gives Seattle a chance to try to sort out its receiving situation early. While there is depth in the group there are also questions. Will Sidney Rice be healthy enough to return and be a contributor? Can Doug Baldwin move to the outside to replace Golden Tate and be as effective as he was playing mostly in the slot in previous seasons? And how can Seattle use Harvins skills to the fullest extent as long as hes healthy from the start of the season? "Percy is spending a lot more time out there so that is bringing a new element of speed," Seattle cornerback Ricahrd Sherman said. "Our offence is coming up with some cool concepts. Its a fun little chess game out there." NOTES: RB Marshawn Lynch was absent from the final OTA on Thursday, as hes been during the Seahawks off-season program. Coach Pete Carroll was not made available to address reports that Lynch may skip next weeks mandatory minicamp. Lynch would be subject to fines of about $70,000 if he skips next weeks final three team sessions before the start of training camp in July. "Wed love to have him ... LOS ANGELES, Calif. Yeezy Powerphase Cz . - Purple and gold streamers descended from the ceiling and fans were on their feet applauding at the end. The Los Angeles Lakers finally won a game after five straight losses to open the season.I know the city probably feels good about it, said Byron Scott, who got his first victory as Lakers coach after they rallied to beat the Charlotte Hornets 107-92 on Sunday night. The party atmosphere didnt extend to the Lakers locker room. They were all pretty quiet, Scott said. What I said was, OK, thats one.Kobe Bryant and Jeremy Lin each scored 21 points, and Carlos Boozer added 16 as the Lakers left Philadelphia as the NBAs only winless team at 0-7.We got to start somewhere, a subdued Bryant said.Lin and Boozers offence dominated the third, when the Lakers were down by seven before a 25-6 run sent them into the fourth leading 76-64.It was a lead they never gave up.Mentally, it gives us the vision that we can win, Scott said.Al Jefferson scored 23 points and Kemba Walker added 17 for the Hornets, whose two-game winning streak ended. Gary Neal added 10 of his 14 in the fourth off the bench and Lance Stephenson had 10 rebounds. The difference was that they made shots and we didnt. Kobe hit a couple of tough fades and Lin hit a few, Neal said. It doesnt matter that the Lakers were 0-5. Any time you have a Hall of Famer like Kobe, you always have a chance to win.The Lakers scored 14 unanswered points in their dominating third-quarter run, including eight in a row by Boozer, whose jumper gave them their first lead of the game at 61-59.The Hornets were held to five field goals in the third, and just two over the final 3:48, while getting outscored 34-13 in the period. We sat down on them defensively, Bryant said. We flew around and made them take tough shots, made a conscious effort to post Booz early.Bryant, prone to taking over games while his younger teammates watched, still put up the most shots (20) of any Laker, but he scored just nine points in the second half.Bryant had one basket in the fourth, with six other Lakers contributing to the offence. Lin and Wesley Johnson hit consecutive 3-pointers that had the long-suffering crowd on its feet cheering a victory that wasnt in doubt.Guys werent just looking to get the ball to Kobe and step out of the way, Scott said. I talked to Jeremy before the game about being more assertive on both ends of the floor. The Hornets got no closer than eight in the fourth, when the Lakers shot 62 per cent.We stopped playing defence in the second half, Charlotte coach Steve Clifford said. You could see our language starting to fade when we started missing shots and not playing defence.___TIP-INSHornets: Their 92 points were the lowest by a Lakers opponent so far. ... It was Charlottes first game not decided by single digits.Lakers: F Ryan Kelly sat out with a sore right hamstring. ... The Lakers avoided losing six straight to open a season for the first time since 1957-58, when the franchise was in Minneapolis and that team lost seven in a row. ... The Toronto native was a top 10-ranked fighter in the golden age of heavyweights, taking on the best of his era, including Muhammad Ali, George Foreman and Floyd Patterson. He inflicted more damage than he absorbed in his 22-year career, but the perception lives on of the plodding boxer with the iron chin that was formed during dramatic bouts in 1966 and 1972 with Ali, perhaps the greatest heavyweight of all time. There was also the misery he endured after his retirement in 1978, losing three sons and his wife to drugs and suicide, perhaps the most painful blows of all. He addresses those issues in "Chuvalo: A Fighters Life", an autobiography released on Tuesday that was written with veteran boxing writer Murray Greig. It is a chronological recounting of his fight career, but Chuvalos voice, his love of storytelling and his frankly expressed opinions on the good and terrible things in his life are all over it. That is what makes it a better read than your average as-told-to book by an ex-athlete. It also describes a boxers early life, before the headline bouts at Madison Square Garden, of being broke most of the time and leaving a wife and young children at home to drive a shaky jalopy to fight for too-little money in a small-town arena. And it recalls the glory days of heavyweight prize fighting, when major bouts were front-page news and the stars were not like todays six-foot-eight giants who jab and do little else in the ring. That Chuvalo emerged from it all without a slurred tongue and with his memory and sense of humour intact may be his biggest victory. "I wanted to leave something for my grandchildren to read about their grandfather and know about me," the 76-year-old Chuvalo said of the book in a recent interview. But he also would like them to know that he was more than just one of the many victims of Alis flair and skill. "When people think of me, they think of me fighting Muhammad," he said. "Its hard for them to think of anything else. "But I had close to 100 fights. The perception of me is as a tough guy who could take a shot. I was supposed to have the best chin in boxing. Adidas Nmd r1 Damske. It clouds my other abilities." From his first fight in 1956, a second-round knockout of Gordon Baldwin, to his third-round KO of George Jerome in 1978, Chuvalo compiled a record of 73 wins (64 by knockout), 18 losses and two draws. Although he was stopped short of the distance by Foreman and Joe Frazier, he was never knocked down in the ring. It is one of the first issues he deals with in the book. "Today, most people think I was a tough guy who took a good rap, which is fine," he writes. "But I was a much better defensive fighter than I ever got credit for. I didnt get hit with half the punches people think I did. If that were true, Id be walking around on my heels today. Nobodys that tough." Chuvalo never won a world title, losing to Ernie Terrell in his only attempt in 1965, a fight he feels was fixed by mobsters. But he was Canadian champion for most of 17 years, back when that title still mattered. And one of his favourite funny stories was about how he became champion of Haiti in 1972. He was voted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 1997. There was also a statue of him erected in his ancestral hometown in Bosnia. But his defining moment was in Toronto on March 29, 1966, when he stood up to Alis brilliance for 15 rounds and became a national hero simply for not going down. He did the same over 12 rounds in a rematch in Vancouver six years later. Perhaps ironically, Chuvalo feels Ali had the best chin of any opponent he faced, along with being the best boxer of all time. He names Foreman and Mike DeJohn as the hardest punchers he encountered. He left the painful stories of his family for last. No blood in the ring was quite as gruesome as finding a son dead in a hotel room with a needle in his arm, or of his first wife Lynne succombing to dispair and taking her own life. He spares no details. Chuvalo has since remarried, and he visits schools across Canada to deliver an anti-drug message. Somehow, he maintains a positive approach to life, concentrating on his two remaining children and his grandkids. Even then, he dedicates the book to his granddaughter Rachel Chuvalo, who died of cancer last year. The fighters life has been a tough one indeed, in and out of the ring. ' ' '

TORONTO – Change was on the mind, but Brendan Shanahan wasnt looking explicitly for a new assistant general manager. Kevin Porter Jersey . The Maple Leafs president was combing the hockey world, trying to pick out the innovative thinkers, the rising stars, the great minds. One name kept coming up: Kyle Dubas, formerly the 28-year-old general manager of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and now assistant general manager to Dave Nonis in Toronto. Such was the latest shift in direction of the newly minted Shanahan era, one that has seen a coaching staff plundered, a roster reconstructed, a July 1st pass quietly (and prudently) by, and now a management team altered – Dave Poulin and Claude Loiselle fired Tuesday. “I like to surround myself with people that challenge ideas, that think differently,” Shanahan said. “The more I got to know Kyle the more I realized that this was somebody that obviously was an extreme talent.” Through extensive conversations with Dubas over the past few weeks, Shanahan, who accumulated nearly 700 goals and three Stanley Cups as a player, kept coming away with fresh thoughts and perspectives about the game. In Dubas, he appears to have found someone willing to think differently, a rising front office prodigy known for his openness to new ideas, including analytics. “I just found him intriguing,” said Shanahan, standing alongside Dubas at an introductory press conference from the Air Canada Centre. “I was learning things I didnt know and just wanted to learn more.” “Ive got the impression in talking to Brendan and talking to Dave that theyre certainly open to any and all ideas. That was one of the things that was most enticing about the situation here for me,” said Dubas, particularly enthused to work alongside Nonis, himself once a young assistant general manager in Vancouver. In just three short years in Sault Ste. Marie, Dubas – hired at age 25, mind you – helped steer the Greyhounds from the playoff wilderness to a West division title. He was once a teenage scout for his hometown junior team and later the youngest player agent to be certified by the NHLPA. Rising fast through the hockey ranks, he is known to be thoughtful, respectful and innovative in his thinking, a breath of fresh air to a game thats often remained engrained in old habits. Though not an all-out stats guru as portrayed in some corners, hes shown a willingness to consider the merits of analytics, employing them where suitable to help his team in the Sault. The Maple Leafs, previously led by noted analytics opponent Brian Burke, have been slow to adjust to the “Money-Puck revolution,” which has crept louder and louder into the game in recent years. And if not a voice for that community, Dubas should, at the very least, open up Nonis, Randy Carlyle and the entire group in Toronto to some different ideas. “Its really about learning as much as I can and getting as much information as I can,” Dubas said. “I havent run the team in Sault St. Marie based solely on statistics, its been a good size part of what weve integrated in, but the rest of it is just hockey. Its evaluating players, scouting reports, dealing with the personalities on the team, trying to hire the best scouts and people. And certainly the analytics, Ive found it to be a major help to me personally in the way that I view the game and just create a better level of certainty to decisions.” “Information is power,” Shanahan added. “Its about eliminating some of the noise and seeing what information works best for you, your team, and the direction you and your team want to go with. “Hes obviously got a great appreciation and understanding of analytics, but hes also married that to the complexities and instincts you have to have when youre putting a product on the ice. Hes not just talked about it, but hes done it.” Todd Reynolds, formerly a colleague in the agent business, says Dubas is not some analytics guru, but rather a well-rounded hockey mind on the rise. “I dont think its all about analytics like people have wanted to make it out to be today,” he told TSN.ca. “Hes not a computer nerd. Hes not sitting there crunching numbers and bringing sheets of paper into the GMs office with recommendations. Hes much more complete than that.” Reynolds firm, Uptown Sports Management, hired Dubas fresh out of the Brock University sports management program. They had known him to be “mature beyond his years” from past dealings with the Greyhounds organization. Dubas, they believed, was sensible, trustworthy and related well to people senior to him. “It really wasnt as much of a stretch or a leap of faith on our part as people thought it was at the time,” Reynolds said. “He held his own. [His age] was used against him at times – as you can imagine our business is competitive, the industry is – and people would say ‘Really, youre thinking about going with him? The kids 20-year-old. So it was used against him successfully at times, at other times he overcame it. “We encouraged him ‘just continue doing what youre doing and people wont talk about your age theyll talk about your track record.” And so they werent surprised at the Burlington headquarters of Uptown Sports to learn a few years down the road that Dubas had earned the GM job in hockey-mad Sault Ste. Marie – as one of the youngest GMs in OHL history – nor taken aback on this day when he rose to the NHL. “We all knew this was coming,” Reynolds said. Shanahan claims he never set out to hire an assistant general manager, but planned on assessing the various levels of the organization over the offseason and instilling change from there. He expected more hires to the management team, likely needing a replacement for Loiselle as it pertained to contract negotiations, the CBA, and the cap, and someone to assume Poulins duties, which included management of the Marlies. Tuesdays proceedings were ultimately another step in the remaking of the Leafs in Shanahans vision. That vision started to take shape with the early May firings of the coaching staff and the retaining of Carlyle. It continued with the selection of William Nylander at the draft, varied roster pursuits in and around July 1st – quiet for Toronto standards – and a pair of new hires (and voices) to surround Carlyle, including the youthful Steve Spott. In Dubas meanwhile, Shahanan will look for a different voice, a fresher perspective that may have been lacking. “Im just an assistant GM,” said Dubas. “Ill do what Im asked and go from there.” Larry Nance Jr. Cavaliers Jersey .ca! LIVERPOOL, England -- Fulham and Cardiff were relegated from the Premier League on Saturday after Sunderlands surprise 1-0 win at Manchester United proved a reality check for the deposed champions interim manager Ryan Giggs. Wholesale Orioles Jerseys . Fulham lost 4-1 at Stoke and Cardiff was defeated 3-0 at Newcastle, leaving both teams unable to climb out of the bottom three with one match apiece remaining. "I have to apologize for not managing the situation. The club asked me to come -- I tried," said Fulham manager Felix Magath, who was hired in February in an attempt to keep the club in the top division for a 14th straight season. "The thing is you can never say any player would like to see relegation, but they didnt fight enough, especially today." Cardiff goes down after spending just one year in the Premier League. Sebastian Larssons 30th-minute winner at Old Trafford means resurgent Sunderland have picked up seven points from recent away matches at Manchester City, Chelsea and United to move three points clear of third-bottom Norwich with two matches left. After opening with a 4-0 win over Norwich last weekend, Giggs saw United turn in a performance reminiscent of David Moyes woeful 10-month tenure that was ended last month. "I feel flat," said Giggs. "The players were flat and I dont know why . We were putting five- or 10-yard passes astray and if you do that in the Premier League you get punished. Weve had a problem at home all season -- its not been good enough." Already out of contention to qualify for the Champions League, United is also struggling to make the Europa League as it is six points behind sixth-placed Tottenham, which lost 2-0 at West Ham. Spurs went down to 10 men in the 25th minute when Younes Kaboul was given a straight red card for a professional foul, before an own goal by Harry Kane and Stewart Downings free kick secured a victory that preserved West Hams Premier League status for another season. Aston Villa is almost certain of staying up, too, after beating Hull 3-1 thanks to Ashley Westwoods goal after 58 seconds and a pair of headers from Andreas Weimann just before halftime. Villa is six points clear of Norwich, which likely needs at least four points to survive but ends the season with games against Chelsea on Sunday and Arsenal next weekend. Hull, a point behind Villa, is also unlikely to be hauled in by Norwich but its three-game winless run bodes ill for the FA Cup final against Arsenal on May 17. Southampton beat Swansea 1-0 away thanks to Rickie Lamberts injury-time goal in Saturdays other match. Once he saw that go down, he went on a fourth-quarter scoring flurry. "That first 3 felt real good," Lillard said. "Once that went down, I felt if I got another clean look, Im gonna raise up again. And then it happened a couple more times." Lillard scored 14 of his 16 points in a key run to rally the Portland Trail Blazers past the Jazz 111-99 on Friday night. "On the offensive end, I need to tell my teammates whats coming. As a point guard, youre the head of the team," Lillard said. But even the second-year guard didnt know when his offence would start flowing. When it finally did, the Jazz had no answer. Wesley Matthews had 21 points, LaMarcus Aldridge had 18 points and 14 rebounds -- his 40th double-double -- and Nicolas Batum added 15 points to keep Portland in the race to host a first-round playoff series. Derrick Favors scored 21 points and Enes Kanter had 15 points and 13 rebounds, but the Jazz have lost eight of nine. Early in the fourth quarter, the Jazz led by two and Lillard hadnt converted a single field goal. Over the next 3:24, Lillard made four 3-pointers and a pair of free throws. "We closed out with our hands down," Utah coach Ty Corbin said. "But give them credit, they made plays down the stretch." After that, the Blazers led by double-digits for the first time at 96-85 with 6:28 remaining and soon earned their seventh victory in their past eight games. "He hit those 3s and he just kind of felt it. Those 3s really turned the momentum of the game," Portland coach Terry Stotts said. "Damian just took it on himself to make something happen." Marvin Williams was out with a knee bruise and the Jazz started the five players that figure to be the core as they rebuild. The quintet -- Gordon Hayward, Favours, Kanter, Trey Burke and Alec Burks -- are all 23 years or younger and have gained experience during this often-frustrating season for a franchise that once made the playoffs 20 years in a row. Burks has primarily filled the sixth-man roole while veteran Richard Jefferson had been the only Utah player to start (and play) every game this season. Orioles Jerseys 2019. The youthful lineup paid dividends early, but the Jazz struggled in the critical moments against a better team as they have all season. Burks had 16, Burke had 14 points and 11 assists and Hayward added 14, but no one could stop Lillard when he was determined to score in the final period. The Blazers drew within a half game of Houston for the fourth slot in the Western Conference as Minnesota edged the Rockets 112-110 on Friday. "You always want home court. If we can get it, we definitely want it. We saw Houston lost so that helps our chances," Aldridge said. Portland won its final road game of the season and has two remaining at home. The Blazers swept the Jazz for the first time in franchise history. The Blazers defence had improved over the past few months but the Jazz got the shots they wanted, for the most part, until Portland clamped down in the fourth and scored 35 points on the other end. "We just knew we had to take care of business. We got locked in and played better defence. It was just an understanding," Aldridge said. The Blazers went 7 for 8 from beyond the arc in the final period and though they were outrebounded by a 47-41 margin, Portland grabbed four offensive rebounds to get second shots down the stretch. "Were coming together at the right time. Defensively weve been locked in and our offence is starting to come around again. Were looking forward to the playoffs," Stotts said. The Jazz led most of the first half before Matthews scored 10 points in the final 3:09 of the second period to lift the Blazers to a 53-51 advantage at the break. Notes: Rudy Gobert was accidentally backhanded in the face by Burks as they pursued a rebound in the second quarter. ... Lillard, who was already frustrated and had not scored at that point, got whacked in the chin in the fourth quarter by Haywards head. ... Utah is 1-30 against Western Conference opponents this season when scoring fewer than 100 points. ... In his eighth start of the season, Burks played a career-high 42 minutes. ' ' '

WASHINGTON -- Washington Redskins president Bruce Allen said in a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Saturday that the pro football teams nickname is "respectful" toward Native Americans. Bob Lilly Womens Jersey . On Thursday, half the U.S. Senate urged National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell to change the Washington clubs name, saying it is a racist slur and it is time to replace it. The franchise responded by releasing Allens letter. "Our use of Redskins as the name of our football team for more than 80 years has always been respectful of and shown reverence toward the proud legacy and traditions of Native Americans," he wrote. The letter references research that "the term Redskins originated as a Native American expression of solidarity." It notes that the teams logo was designed by Native American leaders and cites surveys that Native Americans and Americans as a whole support the name. Redskins owner Daniel Snyder has refused to change the name, citing tradition, but there has been growing pressure including statements in recent months from President Barack Obama, lawmakers of both parties and civil rights groups. Last month, Reid took to the Senate floor to say Snyder should "do what is morally right" and change the name. In a letter Thursday, 49 senators mentioned the National Basketball Associations quick action recently to ban Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling for life after he was heard on an audio recording making offensive comments about blacks. They said Goodell should formally push to rename the Redskins. "We urge you and the National Football League to send the same clear message as the NBA did: that racism and bigotry have no place in professional sports," read the letter, which did not use the word "Redskins." Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida wrote his own letter saying he doesnt believe that retaining the Redskin name "is appropriate in this day and age." In a written response Thursday, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said "the intent of the teams name has always been to present a strong, positive and respectful image." Reid and Sen. Maria Cantwell of Washington state led the letter-writing effort. All senators on the letter are Democrats. Cantwell spokesman Jared Leopold said Republicans were not asked to participate. The senators noted that tribal organizations representing more than two million Native Americans across the U.S. have said they want the Redskins name dropped. Despite federal laws protecting their identity, "Every Sunday during football season, the Washington, D.C., football team mocks their culture," they wrote. "The NFL can no longer ignore this and perpetuate the use of this name as anything but what it is: a racial slur." Jaylon Smith Womens Jersey . Their 38th instalment is arguably their biggest fight card to date, including three-title fights and a main event which was selected by the fans. The promotion boasts 14-straight years of business and is operated by MFC president Mark Pavelich, who is often overlooked in this country for the foundation hes established for MMA in Canada. "Im the forefather of MMA in this country and its going to continue to be that way -- When Im dead one day and they make (me) a statue. (Critics will) feel terrible about how they spoke about me. Thats whats going to happen." Pavelich told TSN.ca Founded in 2001, the MFC is the longest running MMA promotion in North America next to the UFC and has outlasted other organizations such as the IFL, Elite XC, DREAM, Affliction and most recently Strikeforce who have all ceased operations. "Im not a promoter; Im a fight pioneer thats what people dont understand. Fight promoters are guys that come around and do it once in a while Im a guy thats been in (the fight business) right from the beginning." While MMA has been thriving in Western Canada for years thanks to the success of the MFC, the province of Ontario hasnt been as responsive, only legalizing MMA back in 2010. Despite the UFC holding successful annual events in Toronto the last few years, local MMA promotions are essentially non-existent in Ontario. Even the MFC has only held one event in Ontario (MFC 29: Conquer, in Windsor, Ontario) and that was back in 2011. Whats keeping local MMA out of Ontario? According to Pavelich it is the governing bodies in charge and not Ontario Athletic Commissioner Ken Hayashi. "Its not (Hayashi), its the provincial government that makes these regulations and fees. Thats the thing they have to fix and alter before (the MFC) returns because these fees are astronomical, theyre the highest in the world. Las Vegas is cheaper (to run an event), Albertas cheaper, and Quebec is cheaper." Pavelich believes MMA cant grow properly in Ontario if the UFC is the only promotion running events. "Thats just something (the governing bodies) have to take a look at. If they really want to see MMA develop properly in Ontario, I think (the MFC) is the only brand of MMA that can actually do it. I mean if you want to wait around for the UFC to come once a year and you think thats going to develop MMA, its not going to happen that way." One of the catalysts for the MFCs success has been their out of the box type thinking, including their recent "Punch The Vote" contest where fans had the opportunity to pick which of the three title fights would serve as the main event for MFC 38. This included Canadian Smealinho Rama vs. Anthony Hamilton (for the heavyweight title), Sam Alvey vs. Jason South (for the 185lb title) and Anthony Birchack vs. Tito Jones (for the 135lb title). "What I loved about the voting -- It really showed were not a local a brand of MMA, were not even a Canadian brand of MMA, and we had people voting from all over the world. That proves thats lots of people are paying attention and thats really exciting." Proof of this was the Calgary native Rama who received the least amount of votes and bantamweights Birchack and Jones (both of whom are American) earning the main event slot. Rounding out MFC 38s main card, aside from the three title fights is a lightweight affair between Canadian Kurt Southern and Jason Novaes. Pavelich believes this rematch from MFC 36 will be nothing short of fireworks. "Kurt Southern is the best 155er in Canada. I think Novaes is a speccial individual as well. Emmitt Smith Youth Jersey. Theyre going to go at it again for the second time and Im super excited about that. But like I said its unfortunate because there are three titles and nobody is talking about (this) fight." On the topic of fighters on the MFC roster, many fans have been wondering why welterweight superstar Dhiego Lima hasnt been competing inside the MFC ring this year. The answer is simple, hes a free-agent. "Problem with Dhiego is we have too many American Top Team guys in our organization. He was crossing (fights) with them -- a few times he was going to have title fights with other American Top Team guys and then it got really weird. They wouldnt fight each other." "We released him and let him go to where he wants to go, because (not fighting teammates) is going to be a problem." This is the second time Pavelich has let a Lima brother leave his organization as a free-agent. Dhiegos older brother Douglas left in the Alberta based promotion back in 2011 and has recently found success in in the Bellator Fighting Championships, winning two welterweight tournaments. "Im happy for (Douglas) although I dont think hes fighting for the right organization, sometimes agents make the mistake. I dont blame him whatsoever." "Go check Limas twitter today, you know what it still says "MFC Champ" at the top of it. That tells you whats in his heart. He told us at our home one time that made a mistake going to (Bellator). He could have walked into the UFC, and not just walked in, he could have walked in like a star" "I dont think he gets the publicity like he did when he was with the Maximum Fighting Championship any more. (Bellator) fails to promote that end of stuff" As the sport of MMA continues to grow, the addition of women fighting is always a hot topic. With UFC introducing females into their organization earlier this year and debuting them on the Ultimate Fighter, could we see the same thing in the MFC? "I respect all female fighters. Im a huge Miesha Tate fan, I like Sarah Kaufman. I think theyre great athletes. The problem is I dont think I can get a quality ten girls together to make this a great division." Another budding issue with the MFC is their broadcast rights. Currently their events only broadcast live on AXS TV (formally HDNet) in the States. Canadian cable companies pulled the plug on AXS TV in Canada last year. The only way fans can watch MFC events in Canada is on a two-week tape delay on speciality channel the Fight Network. "Andrew Simon and Mark Cuban are very intelligent at AXS TV and everybody knows that. I know they want to be in Canada. Sometimes being Mark Cuban is difficult because people might charge too much for what (the network) is really worth. The cable networks and the fans have to realize that its your obligation to tell the cable company that you want AXS TV (in Canada)" Despite these hurdles, Pavelich believes the MFC is a unique brand of MMA and fans always get their monies worth seeing their events live. "Come watch our brand of MMA and then you tell me after that you didnt get your $60 worth or your $600 worth its impossible! (Quality fights) is the only thing were good at and weve been good at it for 14-years." "We have real fighters in the MFC. You cant pick who you fight in the Maximum Fighting Championships, you go in these other organizations and you can pick who you fight. We tell you youre going to fight because its our job is to the fans and we want to put on the best fight possible" MFC 38: Behind Enemy Lines takes place this Friday (October 4th) at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton Alberta Canada and on AXS TV. BEREA, Ohio - Johnny Manziel seemed a little taller. Tigers Jerseys China . Not in height, but definitely in stature. The playmaking, headline-making, love-him-or-hate-him sensation who has spent the majority of his rookie season as an orange-helmeted spectator, Manziel is now the Browns starting quarterback — No. 2 is No. 1.And just like when he was college footballs most electrifying player, Manziel is again in the spotlight and not scrambling away. As he prepares for his debut start Sunday against Cincinnati, Manziel said the pro version of Johnny Football is new.I dont think youre going to see the Johnny that you saw at Texas A&M because this isnt Texas A&M, he said Wednesday following his first practice as a starter. This is a different point in my life. Im a different person than I was. Hes been a different quarterback since Monday, when Browns coach Mike Pettine informed the 22-year-old Manziel that he was benching struggling starter Brian Hoyer after a four-game funk. Pettine nearly made the move last week but stuck with Hoyer because he had gotten the Browns (7-6) into playoff contention.Pettines counting on Manziel to keep his team there. We wanted to make a change to do some different things schematically and to maybe bring a little bit more energy, Pettine said.Manziel, whose commitment and dedication to his craft have been questioned in the past, seems to embrace his new role. He spent Tuesday at the teams facility getting a head start on this weeks game plan with offensive co-ordinator Kyle Shanahan. A week ago, Manziel raised some eyebrows by attending a Cavaliers game to see friend LeBron James play before Pettine announced his starter. There was no Cavs game on a Tuesday this time, Manziel said, smiling. Ill try to provide a spark and be smart while doing it.Manziel also made light of a comment by Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, who called him a midget earlier this week in a radio interview. Its absolutely funny, the 6-foot Manziel said of the remarks by Lewis, who has apologized several times. Im not going to sprout 5 inches over the course of the week, so my height is my height and I need to overcome it with other pieces of my game.Hoyers game has been in a tailspin for a month. He threw eight interceptions and his quarterback rating dropped each week as the Browns lost three times in the last four games. The stretch has jeopardized Clevelands chances of making the playoffs for the first time in 12 years.Hoyers homegrown, feel-good story and comeback from knee surgery helped make the Browns relevant again. He was understandably disappointed by the demotion but said he was proud of his accomplishments.I dont want anyone to feel sorry for me, said Hoyer, who went 10-6 as a starter and will be a free agent after this season. I got to live out a childhood dream, and its not over.Clevelands locker room is supporting the decision, which certainly has Browns fans invigorated. Ticket brokers have seen a rise in demand since Manziel was named starter and Sundays home finale will have a greater buzz that in previous seasons, when empty seats were the norm.Pro Bowl tackle Joe Thomas said hes excited to see Manziel start after he had some success in the preseason and against Buffalo on Nov. 30.Im excited to see what he can do now that hes got the reins, Thomas said.NOTES: Pettine said a change at kicker was discussed, but the team is sticking with Billy Cundiff. Cundiff has missed seven field goals this season, one in each of the past five games. Billy knows, Pettine said. MONACO -- Six-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic faces an anxious wait to see how long his right-wrist injury will keep him away from tennis. Djokovic lost his Monte Carlo Masters title on Saturday after being beaten by Roger Federer in the semifinal, where the Serb played with heavy strapping on his right wrist and was unable to serve or return to his usual level. "I just rest now. I cannot play tennis for some time. How long, I dont know. Its really not in my hands anymore," Djokovic said. "Im going to rest and see when it can heal 100 per cent, then I will be back on the court." There was some bright news, however. "Well, the good thing is I dont need to have a surgery. I dont have any rupture or something like that," Djokovic said. "Im going to go see doctors tonight and then tomorrow again have another MRI (scan), see if anything changed in this seven days since I had the last one." He does not know what the exact injury is. "I heard so many things in last 10 days," Djokovic said. "Trust me, its complicated." The second-ranked Serb had complained earlier this week about the pain, but then said it felt better aftter taking a day off from playing and training between his matches on Tuesday and Thursday. Custom Detroit Tigers Jerseys. His arduous quarterfinal win against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez on Friday, needing more than two hours to beat the Spaniard, aggravated the pain. "Long match, long rallies, heavy balls, definitely did not help the state of my arm," he said. "Since last night it was as it is now." Djokovic was looking to win his fifth straight Masters title but felt he was up against it from the outset. "The pain was there every single day from 10 days ago. At some stages it was very painful," he said. "I didnt want to pull out (against Federer) because then people start talking different things about me and my withdraws and so forth. That was the main reason." Djokovic thinks he may have started training too hard on clay after switching from the grueling hard courts in the United States, where he won Masters titles at Miami and Indian Wells. "It happened in two days. Obviously I practiced a lot. Maybe I started a bit too strong," he said. "The transition from hard court to clay, different balls, have probably taken its toll." ' ' '

Wingers Watisoni Votu and Sireli Bobo both scored two tries and backrower and captain Akapusi Qera scored another as Fiji piled on six tries to two in a comprehensive performance. Fiji opened the match at a rapid pace with a penalty to Nadolo, then tries to Votu and Nadolo, both converted, to lead 17-0 after only 14 minutes. Though the play of both sides was affected by handling errors, often the product of jarring tackles, Fiji managed to score at more than a point per minute. Tonga finally got onto the board with a penalty to Fangatapu Apikotoa in the 22nd minute and managed to find some defensive steel before Bobo added Fijis third try nine minutes from halftime. Votu scored his second in the 12th minute of the second half to give Fiji a commanding 31-3 lead and a blowout seemed likely until Viliami Fihaki came off the bench to score tries for Tonga in the 24th and 26th minutes of the second half. The Toronto Blue Jays appear to be looking to upgrade their pitching staff, though theyre not tipping their hand too far. Nike Air Max 90 Sale . Speaking with reporters on Friday, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said that once pitcher Masahiro Tanaka signs with an MLB club, some moves could follow for Toronto. "I think once something happens with Tanaka, some things could break. Whether anything happens with us, nobody knows." When asked what general manager Alex Anthopoulos and the Blue Jays management was looking for in the free agent market, Gibbons said they "may be looking at some different pitchers." However he stopped short of saying the Jays need to bring in another player on the mound. "We like the group we have here, we said that all last year, we just didnt play as well as we expected to. As far as the talent we have and players on the field, were very satisfied. Everybodys looking for pitching, there are very few teams who are satisfied where theyre at." As to whether or not the Jays will attempt to make a play for Tanaka, Gibbons said only that the Jays had looked in to him. "Theyre feeling around, seeing whats going on with him but I think most of the teams out there have at least put out some feelers on him. Hes going to make a lot of money, I know that." Gibbons said he knows fans were disappointed by the teams 74-88 record and that the team must improve. "I expect us to be much better this year just with the guys we have, whether there are any more additions or not." Gibbons did point out, however, that theres still time to make moves before the season begins on March 31. "Well see...there are still a couple months before the season starts. Richard Jefferson scored 17 points and Diante Garrett had a career-high 15 points as the Jazz had seven players with 10 points or more in Utahs largest margin of victory this season.KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Once the new year rolled around, Ned Yost turned his attention to the upcoming season, the new pieces that the Kansas City Royals brought in and the possibilities for new lineups. He made the prospect of a contract extension seem almost like an afterthought.I think were in great shape headed into this year, Yost said Tuesday, shortly after the club announced their managers one-year boost through the 2016 season. We came as close as you can to winning a world championship last year, he said, and when you dont do it, it leaves a taste in your mouth. Its something you strive to do, and I think everyone in that locker room will tell you they want to finish this thing off.Yost became the Royals manager in May 2010 and presided over a massive rebuilding effort that culminated with the end of a 29-year playoff drought this past season. The Royals took San Francisco to the seventh game of the World Series, leaving the tying run on third base with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, before their season finally ended. With most of the major pieces of that team back, combined with free-agent acquisitions such as Alex Rios, Kendrys Morales and Edinson Volquez, hopes in Kansas City are higher than ever that the long-downtrodden franchise will be able to compete for the post-season again. As we all know, baseball is a very tough business, Royals general manager Dayton Moore said. Youre always striving for organizational harmony, and we have our key leaders — in this case the manager — signed through the next two years, it helps to create that harmony. The longest-tenured manager in club history, Yost will soon become its winningest. He already has 373 victories, trailing only Dick Howser (4004) and Whitey Herzog (410), and should eclipse two of the franchises iconic names by the time summer rolls around. Clearance Nike Air Max 90. osts contract was due to expire after the upcoming season, but there was little question that he would receive an extension. He has a close relationship with Moore dating to their days in the Braves organization, and Yosts ability to guide a young and unproven lineup to its first AL pennant since the Reagan administration only strengthened his organizational standing. Not everything has gone perfectly for Yost, of course. He has often been lampooned for his in-game adjustments, including a questionable decision to use starter Yordano Ventura out of the bullpen in the playoffs. And his often-surly nature, which has seemed to mellow with time, has drawn the ire of some longtime Royals fans.He came to our organization in a point in time when we needed to be re-energized, and Ned brought a lot of hope and optimism, Moore said. Those are the character traits that we believe are very important for a successful major league manager.Yost said hes been busier this off-season than ever, doing appearances and events just about every weekend since the season ended. But even as he sat in a deer stand on Tuesday, waiting for something worth shooting to amble by, his thoughts were already on the upcoming season.I go back and I look at the World Series and theres not much I would have done different, Yost said. I feel like we were in every single game. You look at the matchups we had, the situations that ended up costing us, they were all matchups we wanted. ... They just didnt work out. But you still have that taste, you know? You were that close to winning the World Series. ' ' '

CLEVELAND -- Pitching to J.D. Martinez didnt work out very well for the Cleveland Indians on Friday night. Facing Victor Martinez wasnt a very good idea either. J.D. Martinez hit a three-run homer, Victor Martinez added a two-run shot and the Detroit Tigers held on for a 6-4 victory. Rick Porcello (9-4) pitched six scoreless innings for the Tigers and Joe Nathan worked the ninth for his 15th save. But it was a big Martinez night for Detroit. Victor Martinez homered off Corey Kluber (6-5) in the fourth inning. J.D. Martinezs home run, following an intentional walk to Victor Martinez, came in the eighth off John Axford. J.D. Martinez was 3 for 4, extending his hitting streak to 10 games during which hes batting .447 (17 for 38) with four homers and raised his average to .317. "You see occasionally players get on a hot streak like this and I hope hes hot tomorrow," Detroit manager Brad Ausmus said. Victor Martinez, providing a big threat behind Miguel Cabrera, has 18 home runs and 47 RBIs with a .328 average. "When the season started I said the only guy who can protect Miguel is Miguel, but Im going to say now the other person who can protect Miguel would be Victor," Ausmus said. "So theres at least two." Indians manager Terry Francona agreed. "Hes the perfect guy behind Miggy," Francona said. "Miggys Miggy. He has that reputation and its well deserved, but Victor can hit all pitching. He can hit for power. He puts the bat on the ball when need be from both sides of the plate." Victor Martinez, who played for the Indians from 2002-09, is hitting .366 (70 for 191) with eight homers and 44 RBIs in 52 career games against his former team. Detroits designated hitter also continued his mastery over Kluber. Hes batting .471 (8 for 17) with two homers lifetime against the right-hander. "I dont think hes biased," Francona said. "Hes good against everybody." Victor Martinez belted Klubers first pitch deep into the seats in right field. The Indians walked him intentionally in the eighth, but J.D. Martinez ruined that strategy with his seventh home run. The Tigers took a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the eighth, but Asdrubal Cabrera hit a three-run homer and Carlos Santana had a solo shot off Ian Krol. Joba Chamberlain retired the final hitter of the inning and then Nathan struck out Michael Boourn with a runner on to end the game. NMD Bape Sverige. "My stress level got a little bit up in the eighth," Ausmus said. The Tigers returned to Progressive Field for the first time since they were swept in a three-game series last month. Detroit was 27-12 and held a seven-game lead in the AL Central, but suffered two walk-off losses, including a balk that scored the winning run in the 13th inning in the series finale. The sweep began a 10-20 tailspin which dropped the Tigers out of first place for the first time his season. Porcello, who is 9-3 lifetime against Cleveland, won for the first time since May 29 and for the second time in his last six starts. He was 7-1 with a 2.91 ERA in his first eight starts, but went 1-3 with a 6.00 ERA in the next five. Porcello allowed six hits, struck out three and walked one. "I had a good fastball," Porcello said. "My changeup was a big pitch. The way the guys played defence was fantastic too." Indians left fielder Michael Brantley singled as a pinch-hitter with two outs in the ninth, his first appearance since sustaining a concussion Monday. Porcello is 4-0 with a 1.47 ERA in five starts against Cleveland since 2013. Kluber hasnt won since May 30 after recording victories in four straight decisions. He gave up eight hits, struck out six and walked one. Ian Kinsler had an RBI double in the ninth. Tigers right fielder Torii Hunter missed his fourth straight game with a strained right hamstring. The crowd of 33,545 was the second-largest at Progressive Field this season, topped only by the home opener. NOTES: The Indians will induct Omar Vizquel into their Hall of Fame before Saturday nights game. He played for Cleveland from 1994-2004, won 11 Gold Gloves as a shortstop and finished his career with 2,877 hits. "Im very honoured," said Vizquel, the first base and infield coach for the Tigers. "Playing here was the highlight of my career."... Tigers C Alex Avila strongly disputed an Internet report that he is tipping pitches by tapping his glove. "Ive heard some crazy things, but that takes the cake," he said. "I think people are just searching for something."... The Indians recalled RHP Vinnie Pestano from Triple-A Columbus and optioned RHP Zach McAllister there. ... Tigers RHP Justin Verlander (6-7) takes on RHP Trevor Bauer (2-3) on Saturday. Verlander is 2-5 with a 7.83 ERA in his last seven starts. ' ' '

SEATTLE - Over the final month of the season, Carolina took advantage of its opportunities to make a surprising entry into the NFL playoffs. Ryan Helsley Jersey .Against the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, the Panthers had few opportunities. The Seahawks scored 17 points in the fourth quarter and advanced to the NFC championship game with a 31-17 victory. The Panthers turned the ball over three times, setting up two Seattle touchdowns, while the Seahawks didnt commit a turnover.Well, certainly, we needed them to make some mistakes and that would help, Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said. But it didnt happen, again credit to them. They did some really good things, we made some mistakes. We missed some opportunities. They did some things that lead to winning championships. The Panthers (8-9-1), who finished the regular season with a losing record, essential had been in a playoff mode since early December. They beat New Orleans, Cleveland and Atlanta to win the NFC South title then knocked off Arizona last week in the first round of the playoffs. They played together, they came together and they deserved to be here, Rivera said. Again, I know a lot of people dont agree with me, but thats too bad. Thats the way it is.It took Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson throwing for three touchdowns — all on third downs — to make the difference.Thats big. Third down is the money down, Carolina middle linebacker Luke Kuechly said. They do a good job running. And when you run well, that opens it up for them. He (Wilson) knows whats going on. Hes an intelligent guy, a smart guy. He knows where he wants to go with the football, he makes quick decisions. That first touchdown fit Russell Wilson to a T right there. The Seahawks (13-4) never trailed and became the first defending Super Bowl champion to win a playoff game the following season since New England in January 2006.Since that Patriots victory, three defending champions have earned byes only to lose in the divisional round, the last being Green Bay in the 2011 playoffs.Seattle will host either Green Bay or Dallas next Sunday for a trip to the Super Bowl.Carolina quarterback Cam Newton threw a pair of touchdowns to Kelvin Benjamin, but Carolina couldnt overcome the turnovers. The biggest blow was Kam Chancellors 90-yard interception return midway through the fourth quarter that gave Seattle a 31-10 lead.I dont know if a strong safety can have a better game than Kam did tonight, Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. After knocking off Arizona in the wild-card round last week, Carolina was trying to be the first team to reach a conference championship game after having a losing record in the regular season.Much like the previous three regular-season games between the two teams, Carolina made it difficult on Seattle. The best running team in the NFL this season was held to 100 yards rushing by the Panthers defence.Marshawn Lynch was mostly a non-factor aside from a 25-yard run in the third quarter that helped set up Steven Hauschkas 37-yard field goal on the first play of the fourth quarter. But Wilson was outstanding, especially on third down. Wilson hit Doug Baldwin on third-and-9 on his TD catch in the first quarter.Jermaine Kearses 63-yard TD reception came on a third-and-7. And Luke Willsons 25-yard catch-and-run TD was on third-and-10.Wilson finished with a passer rating of 149.2, the second-highest for any game in his career. He passed for 199 yards on third downs. They just made big plays. It wasnt like they drove. It was just big plays that came back to bite us defensively, Carolina safety Roman Harper said. We will be better because of this. Everything is always something to learn from and we got to do that.Newton played well, but the turnovers overshadowed his performance. Newton finished 23 of 36 for 246 yards and added 37 yards rushing. Jonathan Stewart had been a key to the Panthers late-season surge, and rushed for 70 yards on 13 carries.Newton got away with testing All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman in the first quarter and watching Sherman dance away with his first career post-season interception. But Seattle took the lead after Carolinas second turnover of the first quarter. Michael Bennett disrupted the handoff between Newton and Stewart and Tony McDaniel fell on the loose ball at the Carolina 28. Wilson connected with Baldwin to take the lead and Carolina never pulled back even.NOTES: Seattle won its eighth straight home playoff game. ... Carolinas 132 yards rushing were fourth-most of any team vs. Seattle this season. ... Warren put on a show in the NCAA tournament. The hard-to-guard sophomore forward scored 16 of his 25 points in the second half on Tuesday night, showing why he was the ACCs player of the year, and North Carolina State led most of the way in a 74-59 victory over Xavier in the NCAA tournaments First Four. N.C. State (22-12) didnt have much time to celebrate. The 12th-seeded Wolfpack headed to Orlando, Fla., for a game on Thursday against St. Louis in the Midwest Regional. Warren had the most to do with it. He made up for a freshman tournament flop on the same floor a year earlier and prevented Xavier (21-14) from getting any traction in the second half. "Hes just a great player," coach Mark Gottfried said. "Its hard to keep him down for a whole 40 minutes." Centre Matt Stainbrook led Xavier with 19 points and nine rebounds despite an injured left knee. Leading scorer Semaj Christon was limited to 14 points, and Xavier made only 2 of 14 shots from beyond the arc. Xavier was playing in a familiar arena less than an hour from campus. Familiar, but not entirely friendly. Fans of the Dayton Flyers -- a long-time rival -- booed loudly as they took the court, making for a mixed welcome with a lot of Musketeer fans in the stands as well. Warren made it all a moot point, helping N.C. State take all the drama out of the game over the final 11 minutes. Ralston Turner added 17 points. The Wolfpack went six years between NCAA appearances before Gottfried got them there three years in a row. This was his youngest and least-experienced team: Only two players with tournament experience. They got one of the final at-large bids with a strong closing run, winning ffive of their last six games, including an upset of Syracuse in the ACC tournament. Bobby Tolan Cardinals Jersey. . Warren was the key. And he really wanted a second chance at the NCAA tournament. As a freshman last year, he managed only four points as N.C. State lost to Temple 76-72 at the University of Dayton Arena in its opening game. Hes grown a lot in one year, leading the ACC with 24.8 points per game this season and hitting the 40-point mark twice. He got off to a bad start on Tuesday, missing his first two shots and picking up two fouls in the first 4 minutes, 14 seconds. Warren checked back into the game and hit a jumper for his first points at the 11:29 mark. Christon, who was Warrens roommate at Brewster Academy for one year, kept the Musketeers in it during the first half. He scored off two drives to the basket, starting an 8-1 run. Stainbrooks reverse layup trimmed it to 27-26 with 2:22 left. Jordan Vandenbergs three-point play gave N.C. State a 34-28 advantage at halftime. Dee Davis hit Xaviers first 3-pointer, and Christon scored on a fast-break lay-in that cut it to 39-37. Thats when Warren took over. He had a pair of pull-up jumpers, followed by a steal and a lay-up as N.C. State rebuilt the lead to 51-42. He had another pull-up jumper and a fast-break dunk that made it 57-47 with 7:56 to go. Xavier never got closer than seven points the rest of the way, fading down the stretch. The biggest question for Xavier was how Stainbrooks left knee would hold up. The Big Easts second-leading rebounder sprained a ligament, sat out the final regular season game and was extremely limited in two Big East conference games. He was back in form, but Xavier didnt have enough other scoring options to keep up. ' ' '

CHICAGO -- Chris Sale had a rare off night on the mound. Cheap Adidas Nmd Chukka Uk . Good thing for the White Sox, Jose Abreu came through again at the plate. The Cuban slugger reached base five times while extending his hitting streak to 21 games, and Chicago scored four runs in the eighth inning to beat the Minnesota Twins 10-8 on Friday night. Abreu had three singles, scored twice and drove in a run. He also walked and was hit by a pitch. The 21-game hitting streak is the longest by a White Sox player since Carlos Lees club-record run of 28 in 2004. Abreu has reached base in 10 straight plate appearances. No White Sox player has done that since Frank Thomas set a team mark of 15 in 1997. "Anything you throw up there I think hes going to hit hard," manager Robin Ventura said. Paul Konerko and Alexei Ramirez delivered consecutive RBI singles in the eighth to give Chicago an 8-7 lead. Tyler Flowers added a run-scoring single in the inning after hitting a solo homer earlier in the game. Alejandro De Aza capped the decisive rally with another RBI single, and the White Sox overcame a shaky start by Sale to win for the sixth time in eight games. "I dont have the prescience to tell you where this season is going to take us," Sale said. "But as long as we come in every day and we work hard and play like we played tonight and string some stuff together, I dont see why we couldnt be there with anybody else." The Twins had the bases loaded with no outs in the ninth against Jake Petricka when Kurt Suzuki drove in a run with a fielders choice grounder. But Petricka struck out Kennys Vargas and Oswaldo Arcia for his seventh save in eight chances, ending a game that lasted 3 hours, 47 minutes. "We had a lot of good things happen tonight except the end," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. The teams combined for 31 hits -- 17 for Chicago -- and spent most of the game trading leads. The Twins went up 7-6 in the top half of the eighth on a solo homer by Chris Parmelee off Eric Surkamp, only to have the White Sox answer in a big way in the bottom half. That rally made a winner of Javy Guerra (1-2), who retired the final two batters in the eighth. Sale gave up a season-high tying five runs and eight hits over six innings. Minnesotas Logan Darnell lasted just four innings in his second major league start, allowing four runs and five hits in five innings. He walked four after getting roughed up by the White Sox last Saturday. ON DECK The White Sox send Scott Carroll (4-6, 4.29) to the mound with Yohan Pino (1-3, 4.38) pitching for Minnesota. TRAINERS ROOM Twins: First baseman Joe Mauer (strained right oblique) and starter Ricky Nolasco (sore right elbow) are scheduled to begin minor league rehab stints next week. White Sox: Pitching coach Don Cooper rejoined the team after missing 11 games because of vertigo. General manager Rick Hahn had some burn marks on the right side of his face stemming from an accident with a new fire pit at his house on Monday night. NO DEAL, NO FUN Hahn said the White Sox were close to a three-team deal before Thursdays non-waiver trade deadline and was disappointed nothing materialized. "I sort of felt like the kid looking out the window with all his friends playing outside while I was inside practicing my violin," he said. Adidas Tubular Sale Uk . This should be celebrated because it will not always be this way. With the amount of money given to players by their clubs these days, it is a wonder that so many of those teams allow the sport to continue to take away many of their assets so they can play for a different team in the middle of their season. Ultra Boost Wholesale . -- Victor Bernardez tied the game with his second goal in the 95th minute and the San Jose Earthquakes drew 3-3 with Real Salt Lake on Saturday night. http://www.nmdukonlinestore.com/ . PETERSBURG, Fla. TAMPA, Fla. -- Joe Girardi found out about Derek Jeters retirement announcement the same way almost everyone else did: when the New York Yankees captain posted a letter to the world on his Facebook page this week. Girardi left snowy New York on Friday and arrived at spring training for his seventh year as Yankees manager, and he spent the first eight minutes of his 20-minute opening news conference discussing Jeters decision to retire after this season. "I think we were probably all a little bit taken aback by it," Girardi said. "Youre never sure how someones going to do it, but I had no inkling that thats what he was thinking." After missing the playoffs for just the second time in 19 years, the Yankees were back in business when pitchers and catchers reported ahead of Saturdays opening workout. Alex Rodriguezs locker was empty following his season-long suspension. Masahiro Tanaka inherited Mariano Riveras locker and Shawn Kelley got Andy Pettittes stall. Scott Sizemore, attending camp on a minor league contract, was assigned Robinson Canos jersey No. 24. Position players report next Wednesday, when Jeter holds a news conference at Steinbrenner Field to explain his decision. Girardi has exchanged texts with the 39-year-old shortstop but has not spoken with him. "This is going to be a guy thats hard to replace in your clubhouse and on your club," he said. "Its the nature of the business where people age and they move on and they go and do different things in their life, and in our life its a little bit quicker than some of the other working people of this world." Jeter was limited to 17 games last year after fracturing his left ankle in the 2012 playoffs and breaking it again last spring during his rehabilitation. Girardi said Jeter always told him "I feel great," but that he could sense frustration. After working out Friday with Brian Roberts at the Yankees minor league complex, Jeter demurred discussing his decision. "It makes no sense to do it here and then do it again over there, so Ill do it all over there one time," he said. And so now Jeter will go on a valedictory tour, much like Mariano Rivera did last year. JJeter is not the type to call attention to himself, making his public announcement before spring training all the more surprising. Adidas Nmd Cheap Uk Sale. "It could have been just watching how Mo did it, and how much fun everyone seemed to have with it with Mo," Girardi said. "He might have said, you know, its a pretty good way to go out." Jeter has won five World Series titles with the Yankees but none since 2009, and his final lap of the major leagues figures to set the theme as New York tries for title No. 28. His teammates looked forward to speaking with him after he reports. "Not really surprised, saddened I guess that hes not going to be around," ace pitcher CC Sabathia said. "You want a guy like that to play forever." Having witnessed Chipper Jones final season with the Atlanta Braves in 2012, new Yankees catcher Brian McCann is looking forward to Jeters last go-round. "Hes been the face of baseball since he broke in," McCann said. "I went through it with one Hall of Famer. Im going to go through it with another." David Robertson, inheriting the closers role from Rivera, hadnt thought Jeter would make his plans known before the seasons end. "But Im really glad he did," he said. "I think its going to give the fans a chance to come out this year and see him in his final season in pinstripes." Robertsons new job is one of many changes for the Yankees, who spent $471 million on free agents, including a $20 million payment to Tanakas old club in Japan. McCann and outfielders Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran are among the many newcomers, and first baseman Mark Teixeira is returning from a wrist injury that sidelined him most of last season. Cano -- the Yankees top hitter -- left for a $240 million, 10-year deal with Seattle. Girardi predicted for the April 1 opener at Houston that Yankees players at every position other than pitcher will be different from opening day last year. The only time thats happened in franchise history was 1947, according to STATS. "I think it is probably the biggest transition Ive been through," Girardi said. "I need to learn a lot of new faces fairly quickly." ' ' '
